The PhD colloquium is one of the prime events organized in conjunction with the 18th ICBM of the FMSC, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. This scholarly platform is opened up for the PhD students to present their research works to a wider audience of fellow PhD students, experienced researchers and other university academics.

Objectives of the PhD Colloquium 2021

  1. We expect to contribute to the professional development of young scholars by giving them an opportunity to present and discuss their research in a constructive and international atmosphere.
  2. You will be provided with the opportunity to meet and network with the experts in different fields of business management.
  3. We expect to incentivise the junior academics in pursuing their higher doctoral studies.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. N. S. Cooray is a Professor in Economics at International University of Japan (IUJ). He was former Director of International Peace Studies Program of IUJ. Before joining IUJ, he was a Research Associate and co-ordinated projects on Sustainable Development Framework for Indonesia and Eco-system Frameworks for Small Island States at the United Nations University/Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU/IAS). He was a UN Researcher at the United National Centre for Regional Development before joining the UNU/IAS. He has worked in Sri Lanka as a Teacher, a Lecturer and a Wharf Manager at the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE). He holds a BA (honours), Diploma in Economic Development, MA and Ph.D., all in economics. His publications include many referred articles, several book chapters and several edited volumes. Research interests include sustainable development related issues, international political economy, peace and development, macroeconomic policy, and econometric modelling and forecasting.

He is currently the founding President of the Association of Sri Lankan Academics in Japan (SLAcJ). Cooray was a Visiting Fellow/Researcher at the Tokyo University, Japan; The Australian National University; and University of Sussex, England. As a visiting faculty, he has taught/teach at the University of Colombo, University of Sophia, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), University of Tsukuba, University of Nagoya and Yokkaichi University. He has more than 30 years of teaching, research, training, and administrative experience.

Paper submission

PhD students representing both local and international universities can submit papers. The papers for the PhD Colloquium should be prepared according to the given guidelines.

PhD students registered at the FMSC, USJ should submit their papers through the consent of the research supervisor and the PhD Unit Coordinator. All the other PhD students are required to submit their papers through the consent of the research supervisor only.

Each paper submitted to the PhD colloquium will be reviewed by an expert panel relevant to the respective fields of study. The authors of the successful submissions should incorporate the reviewer’s comments in preparing the final version. It is required to describe the changes made therein in a separate document to be submitted together with the final camera ready version.
